Gurudongmar Lake, one of Sikkim's most stunning and unspoiled lakes, is located not far from the border between China and Tibet in the north. The icy alpine lake, located at 5,183 metres above sea level, is one of the main sources of the river Teesta. The lake is named for the revered guru Padmasambhava, who is thought to have travelled through this area when visiting Tibet.
