Best time to visit:

The "Valley of Flowers" is the name given to this area because it is surrounded by flowers. It's mind-blowing with the unique vista and exotic setting. This location, which is 3564 metres high and offers the ideal view for those who enjoy the outdoors, is home to Shingba Rhododendron blossoms, which bloom from February to June.

Permits:

Since Yumthang Valley is governed by the army, you need a protected area permission from the Gangtok Tourism Office to access this location. There are other options, and you can also arrange the permission through tour operators.

Accommodations near Yumthang valley:

The valley doesn't have any places to stay. Tourists stay at Lachung, which is about an hour's drive from the valley. At Lachung, a number of hotels and resorts have popped up recently. The facilities are decent and clean, but they cannot be compared to those at other, more upscale locations. The main cause of this is that the place is difficult to get to. A package tour to Yumthang will include arrangements for your lodging and meals. Due to the region's proximity to Chinese Tibet, the government has placed restrictions on the movement of tourists in North Sikkim. Hence, you are unable to independently organise a trip and reserve a hotel. A hotel is only reserved as a component of a package tour.

Temperature:

The climate in Yumthang Valley is consistently chilly all year round. The valley and snow-capped mountains together provide an amazing vista. Every person can enjoy coming over here at any time of year, but summer is the greatest. From December through March, there is a winter season with highs of 10 degrees Celsius. When the valley is covered in snow in the winter, it is captivating. Avoid going there in the winter with children under the age of 6 or 7.

Zero Point:

Yumthang valley is called Zero Point because it is the last point of all Civilian roads. The view is impeccable and looks absolutely stunning when Yumthang valley is at zero point. Zero point does not offer a good atmosphere throughout the year so it is better to be there during summer.

How to reach:

From Gangtok, the road to Yumthang follows the Teesta River and crosses a stunning gorge on the Rang Rang suspension bridge. The final significant town, where tourists can spend the night, is Chungthang, which is about an hour's journey from Lachung. Rhododendrons that blossom on both sides of the gorgeous road between Lachung and Yumthang in the months of April and May give the valley its nickname, the valley of flowers.

The region was inaccessible to ordinary travellers, both Indian and international, because of its proximity to the Chinese border. Yumthang is still mostly accessible through tour groups today. Travel that is independent and individual can be scheduled as needed.
